What is SITE?

Student Introduction to Engineering (SITE) is a three day informational program offered to high school students possessing a genuine interest in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois. Invitations are mailed to high school seniors in early December who are "early admits" to the College. About 100 students take advantage of this opportunity each year.

SITE is not just another orientation program. This program provides a chance for prospective students to become more familiar with the different fields and opportunities available in the College of Engineering.

SITE 2010 will be held from Thursday, February 11th to Saturday, February 13th.

Program Description

Creative Design Contests

The design contests give the participants an opportunity to show their creativity and team skilles. Like in "real" engineering, contestants must design their project and present their results.

Banquet

Students attend a banquet and have the opportunity to meet and interact with the deans and department head advisors. Additionally, a corporate speaker talks about experiences from both college and engineering.

Department Tours

Students hear each department explain its curriculum, and how this experience is applied in the "real" world. These presentations give students a chance to know what their majors involve before they begin their studies.

Panel Discussions

University students from varying backgrounds within the College talk to the participants about anything and everything, including campus involvement, campus life, and how to adjust to college.

Engineering Activities

Participants have the opportunity to explore many of the College of Engineering’s labs and other attractions, including the virtual reality CAVE, materials testing lab, wind tunnels, and hydro systems lab.

Student Interaction

The University's size and diversity, which extend beyond the College of Engineering, are some of its greatest benefits. Our students interact with a variety of people and personalities. Participants will be hosted by university students Friday evening. By staying with a current university student, SITE participants have the opportunity to see the entire student body and its campus life.
